For many of you, this might be your first time going to court or a trial. Although it can be an overwhelming experience, we want you to know that you don’t have to face it alone. ABC Bail Bonds knows the ins and outs of the justice system, and we can guide you through it. You want to make a good impression when you show up to court. There is no such thing as being over prepared, but there are a lot of things that need to be put together to ensure a smooth experience. Aside from showing up to all of the court dates, here are a couple of tips to follow.
Formal Dress Code
Your appearance plays a big factor in how you present yourself. Men should wear a suit and tie, or a sports coat, or a long-sleeve button-down shirt with a collar and long pants. Don’t forget to wear a belt or suspenders to keep your pants up. Women should wear a nice dress, a business suit, conservative pants suit, or a conservative top and long slacks. We also recommend that your hair is tidy, and the less jewelry the better.
Get a Good Night’s Sleep Before Trial
Be well-rested for your court hearing. You want to be alert and attentive to everything that is said at court, and you don’t want to leave bad impressions. Yawning constantly doesn’t look good on your part.
Full Breakfast Before Court
Eat a full breakfast to ensure that your brain functions at it’s best. A court hearing can last longer than you expect, so you want to make sure that you ate enough. Getting through court on an empty stomach will make the experience less pleasant and can affect your concentration levels. Avoid caffeine if possible. You might have to use the restroom if you don’t, and you don’t want to pause a court hearing for a restroom break.
Bring a Care Package
Pack a snack, a water bottle, a note pad, a couple of pens, cash for parking, and a checkbook in case you need to write a check to the court clerk.
Rehearse with Your Attorney
Practice what you will say in court with your attorney. Insist your attorney to meet with you one day prior to the court or trial so they can run you through direct and cross examination. This will help you feel better about your court appearance and success.
Copy of Pleadings
Bring an extra conformed and clean copy of your pleadings, as well as your opponents. This is just in case the judge misplaces them.
Be Early to Your Hearing
One of the most important factors for a smooth court hearing is to be on time for it. ABC Bail Bonds recommends showing up to the hearing at least an hour before. That way, you can find parking, find the courtroom, and prepare your documents. You might have to file court papers on that day, so leave room for that.
